Patterns of union membership in the retail trades.
Retailing, long regarded as a "no man's land" of unionism, is actually far from unorganized, according to this study, which discloses a union membership of over half-a-million retail workers. The rate of growth of the Retail Clerks union in the past 21 years is estimated as well over ten times that of the AFL. Size, jurisdiction, and significant characteristics of membership of the leading unions in retailing are analyzed in this article. (Author's abstract courtesy EBSCO.)
