Promoting small scale and cottage industries in Indonesia : An impact analysis for Central Java

The Indonesian government has long recognised the importance of small scale and cottage industries (SSCI) in economic development. A number of policies and programs have been formulated to assist SSCIs to play their potential role in promoting welfare through employment creation and economic growth. The paper reviews the promotion of SSCI in Indonesia and its impact on employment creation. The analysis provides little evidence that the programs have a positive impact on employment. (DÜI-Sen)
