Qualitative Research Approaches in Public Administration

After briefly reviewing the history of qualitative research in public administration, this paper discusses the challenge of defining the term 'qualitative research' discusses the reasons that public administration researchers do qualitative research, and addresses the role that qualitative research can play in enhancing the knowledge in the field. Examples of published qualitative research are utilized to elaborate upon and provide specifics regarding each topic addressed
