Summary: The aim of this study is to provide an updated version of the study entitled Recruitment and Equal Opportunities Systems published by the European Parliament in November 2000 (Gonzalez Garcia, I., Recruitment and Equal Opportunities Systems, FEMM 110A EN, European Parliament, Luxembourg, 2000), adding the information about those Member States whose accession to the European Union occurred in 2004 and 2007. In addition, the study will provide a comparative analysis of the officially adopted definitions of gender mainstreaming and practices linked to this concept in the Member States. The study offers an overview, based on the most recent data and information, of the recruitment and equal opportunities systems in the national, European and international civil services. The study is divided into five chapters.
