Rolling and coiling technology for production of thin strip for direct use
The continuous casting and rolling facility of ThyssenKrupp Stahl started operation in April 1999. Based on a supply of steel from a TBM basic oxygen steel-making plant and a twinstrand thin slab casting and rolling line equipped with CSP technology, the rolling section of the plant is characterised by new features specially designed for this plant. The objective of the project is to introduce and optimise the new rolling and coiling technology for thin strip production after commissioning. Mild, thin hot strip couId successfully be produced on the CSP both for direct application and for hot-dip galvanising. As well as the conducted investigations on samples, the successful processing of the strips for customers show very promising results. The tests consisted of the two step (ferritical) rolling and austenitical rolling. The production of very thin hot strips for direct application completed the trials on soft strips. Hot strips as thin as 0.8 mm were sucessfully produced, examined and processed. The production of thin miId strips and the extension ot the production to HSLA and multiphase steels were optimised successfully. The production couId be extended also to DP steels while the trials on CP and TRIP steels showed the need tor further optimisation.
