Scientific Performance of the University of Ruhuna During 1999-2010 Based on the ISI WoS Database : A Scientometric Study

One such attempt in this direction is this study, which aims to analyse the Scientific performance of the University of Ruhuna during 1999-2010 in terms of scientometric indicators by using ISI WoS database.As no such study has been undertaken in this research area. Scientific performance points out the stronger and weaker areas of research and helps researchers to contribute more. This study helps the scientists and University of Ruhuna to improve their quality in terms of research productivity nationally and worldwide. Many studies have been reported in this area of research. But no study has been conducted on the analysis of the research productivity of University of Ruhuna University. In this study, by using Web of Science as database, the research outcomes of fifteen Sri Lankan universities were compared with each other. They were compared by the number of articles published per year, number of citations received per year, number of citation per article, h-index of the universities and also it maps scientometric profile of University of Ruhuna such as International collaboration, funding agencies for R&D activities undertaken by the University, preference of journals by scientist ,subject areas for research ,institutional collaboration and so forth. The result of this study shows the ranking of the scientists in University of Ruhuna in terms of h-index
