Securing the Edge: Integrating Cloud Security in Data-Driven Edge Systems
The rapid deployment of data-driven edge (DDE) systems raises significant security concerns. As cloud providers expand edge technologies, accompanying security risks grow exponentially. Unlike traditional deployments, modern systems face sophisticated attacks compromising data, workloads, and computing results. Current security solutions inadequately address cloud-edge integration. Researchers have defined comprehensive security requirements, including data ownership protection and cross-domain access control. A new architecture integrating edge-cloud systems with cloud-native security services has been proposed to mitigate risks. Cloud security vulnerabilities are particularly alarming, with data breaches accounting for approximately 30% of security incidents and substantial financial losses. Potential risks include unauthorized data extraction, backdoor introduction, and hijacking of customer information. Undetected compromised cloud services can propagate malware and exploit system vulnerabilities, posing significant threats to public security and data integrity.
