STAGE-SOFC : innovative SOFC system layout for stationary power and CHP applications

The aim of the STAGE-SOFC project is to develop a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) prototype of a new solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) concept with a serial connection of one exothermal catalytic partial oxidation (CPOX) stage with one or a multiple of endothermic steam reforming stages. The system will combine the benefi ts of the simple and robust CPOX layout with the high effi ciencies obtained by the steam reforming process. The fi rst prototype achieved the set targets on electrical power >5 kW (AC) and electrical effi ciency >45%. The PoC prototype has been designed, constructed, and commissioned and is currently being tested.
