Standards Achieving in Management of Sugar Mills – a Study

Sugar is one of the consumer goods, which is consumed by everyone in the society for one's household purpose. It became an article of general human consumption when it was introduced into the house-hold of "Queen Elizabeth" in the middle of the 16h Century. History of sugar industry in India begins in 1903.Infact, State of Andhra Pradesh was a good host of Sugar industry. Status of sugar industry in Andhra Pradesh was lucrative up to 90's. In subsequent period changed its colours. Due to liberalisation of economy, private sector was given freedom to expand its business in sugar making. At the same time the other two sectors namely, Public and Cooperative in the state have shown deterioration.Number of cooperative mills under operation in the state was 18 out of 33 mills in all sectors by the end of 1990-91, come down to 11 out of 38 by the end of 2008. In a production oriented unit certain standards like., procurement of raw material and its utility, output minimization of time and cost etc. are main thrust areas to study. In an agro based units like, sugar mille those areas will have multiplier effect on over all performance.A light was focused on achievement of standards in sugar mills in Andhra Pradesh as an objective in this attempt. The dimensions of the study are cane cultivating area, crop yield, crushing capacity, crushing season, Time loss and sugar production and recovery etc., A detailed discussion was made in full length paper
