Subject Confusion and Task Non-Completion : Methodological Insights from an Artefactual Field Experiment in India

Evaluation of pre-task quiz performance in our artefactual field experiment finds that females have a significantly lower degree of confusion in comprehending task instructions as compared to males. Furthermore, higher economic status is associated with a significantly higher degree of task non-completion. Academic ability is negatively associated with both subject confusion and task non-completion. Finally, as pre-task quiz performance worsens, completion of tasks significantly decreases. This suggests that unincentivized pre-task quiz scores may be credibly used to predict irregularities in incentivized experimental data
