Supply Network Disruption : A Scenario Based Simulation Study and Countermeasures to Improve Resilience
Today in customer-centric businesses, all supply networks are extremely complex and dynamic in nature in order to have a better supply network and competitive advantage in the market. Due to this complex and changing supply structure, it is vulnerable to various natural and man-made disruptions. To study disruptions from a supply network perspective, classic qualitative methods like theoretical case studies, interview experiences and forecasting models have been used so far which turn out to be an impractical methodology. Therefore, it is exceedingly necessary to have quantitative methods and practical approaches like simulation study to understand the post disruption effect and analyse the core context of having a resilient supply network altogether in a firm. By presenting the scenario based excel simulation model of supply networks from the example model of an automotive firm, this research paper aims at explaining and encouraging firms to understand the risks and impacts of disruptions, in terms of cost, when it hits any supply network. Also in turn to provide possible countermeasures for more resilient and less vulnerable supply network during disruptive events
