Support study for the development of a living inventory of relevant instruments to support investments in the shipping sector : executive summary
Given this need and barrier, this study aims to make green financing products more accessible to the European shipping sector and wider maritime value chain. It has set out to do this by developing an online portal of available financing instruments, tools, and products relevant to supporting investments in the shipping sector specific to decarbonisation, but with an overall view to support its competitiveness in the global market. The study aims to consider the specific case of SMEs, shipbuilding activities, and the development and deployment of infrastructure. The objectives of the project are to: 1. assess the situation in terms of demand and supply of finance; 2. develop an inventory in the form of a toolbox of various available financing instruments, tools and products that may be relevant to support investments in the shipping sector, including green bonds. 3. provide recommendations new schemes for financing, including practical details.
