Symmetry and universality in nonequilibrium models

We have studied nonequilibrium (i.e., irreversible) systems that are either cellular automata or models governed by a master equation with the purpose of understanding the role of irreversibility and symmetry regarding the critical behavior. The study was carried out by the introduction of a Landau-like approach appropriate to analyze nonequilibrium systems and by using results from numerical simulations.
