The drive towards mechanization of small-scale fisheries in Kerala : a study of the transformation process of traditional village societies

Having briefly outlined some outstanding features of traditional fishing villages in South Kerala, the study shows the mechanisms by which the village of Sakthikulangara has radically been transformed under the impact of changes in the outside economy. High degree of uncertainty and unpredictability of incomes - an essential characteristic of traditional marine fishing. The role of the Indo-Norwegian project in modernizing the fishing technology of the village. (DÜI-Sen)
