The Genesis of Dynamic Capabilities : Contribution of Experiential Learning to Sensemaking in Contexts of Organizational Change

This article aims to comprehend and analyze how dynamic capabilities develop from the interaction between sensemaking and experiential learning within the context of planned organizational change. A multiple case study has been developed in four companies from different sectors, involving triangulation with in-depth interviews, direct observation and documentary analysis. Thirty-three executives who participated directly in the change process were interviewed in addition to 103 hours of direct observation. The data analysis was through Grounded Theory, aided by NVivo®️ software. The findings pointed out that experiential learning, from both formal and informal approaches, within the context of organizational change, guided by a continuous need to make and give sense (sensemaking and sensegiving), resulted in the development of learning, reconfiguration and technological dynamic capabilities.
