The regional SCADA system – A decisive instrument in the modern operation of Water and Waste Water Systems
there is no doubt that given the competition in the sector of water supply and sewerage collection-treatment services, as well as the increased expectations of all stakeholders (authorities, customers etc), the operation of water systems has to be oriented towards performance and efficiency, towards the provision of increased safety in operation, superior quality and much lower costs. Performance oriented maintenance management today cannot be conceived without the tools of modern new It strategies, as the computerisation represents one of the fundamental premises for increasing efficiency and safety in operation, for reducing costs and for generating accurate diagnoses which are so useful in operations management in the water sector. For this purpose, SCADA plays a significant role in the performance-oriented operational management, by optimising the operation and management of systems in their entirety, by providing fast and detailed primary or processed data regarding the actual situation of installations, as well as allowing for effectively selecting the least expensive alternative, which in turn increases the efficiency and reliability of the distribution network, reduces costs and improves the quality of services provided to customers.
