Thinking Altruistic and Ecocentric Performance in Organizations in the Age of the Anthropocene

Our environment (the planetary system) and the people who live in it are exhausted. This observation calls for a rethinking of the performance paradigm and its measurement tools in organizations. Therefore, this chapter presents a theoretical reflection on the role of performance in organizations in the age of the Anthropocene and the need to consider altruistic and ecocentric performance. The objective is to assess the value of performance that contributes to both the preservation-conservation and restoration-rehabilitation of our environment, as well as the well-being of individuals within organizations. It involves considering environmental performance alongside "humanized" performance, which entails examining the role and impact on individuals who will implement it. This raises several issues and research perspectives, particularly regarding the social acceptability of such a proposal
