Utilization of Land Resources in Nonagricultural Branches
Nonagricultural land refers to the land of cities and urban-type settlements, as well as of industry, transport, health resorts, etc. All in all it occupies approximately 60 million hectares, or 2.7% of the nation's territory. However, the share of individual types of nonagricultural land is quite great. Thus 8.5% of the total area of nonagricultural land is in the form of land attached to the house within the boundaries of industrial zones of urban settlements, transport organizations, and other nonagricultural enterprises; 35.2% is under roads; and approximately 50% of all built-upon areas in the USSR is under buildings (in the composition of nonagricultural land).
