Work hour mismatch and job mobility : adjustment channels and resolution rates

The final chapter investigates whether workers reporting a work hour mismatch, i.e. prefer to work more or fewer hours, are more likely to resolve this mismatch if they change jobs. Comparing job movers and comparable job stayers shows that although job movers show on average higher adjustments in actual work hours, the probability to resolve the work hour mismatch increases at most moderately. This empirical result stands in contrast to the assumption in standard economic theory that individuals are able to choose their work hours freely.
