5th European Conference on Management of Technology - EuroMOT 2011 “Platforms and innovation: In search of efficiency and effectiveness”
The 5th EuroMOT conference aims to encourage discussions about the role of platforms in search of efficiency and effectiveness as a part of technology management. In the current turbulent business environment companies have to reconcile seemingly conflicting demands such as the demand for a large variety of personalized products that are state-of-the-art in technology and design, high in quality, and low in cost. In response, companies have adopted various approaches ranging from lean production to agile concepts and open innovation. Many of these approaches focus on a specific demand and compromise on another. Platform strategies seem to reconcile these demands but have been concentrating on technical designs and engineering approaches. We subsequently call for increasing the integration of customer, brand, market, process, and other platform designs, in addition to pure technical designs. Moreover, traditional technology and innovation management approaches could well be integrated with platform thinking in new ways, e.g. open innovation in platform design inducing specific business networks. We also invite new perspectives on platform thinking, e.g. stakeholder views on platforms, M&A processes and platform integration, disruptive changes and platform evolution.
