Competition, efficiency and financial stability - Centre for Central Banking Studies
The coincidence of the rise of this new financial system and the current financial crisis has naturally led to a great deal of fascinating research on the links between competition, stability, and efficiency in the financial sector. In this seminar we aim to take stock of this research effort, which has profound implications for the optimal structure of financial regulation. The topics covered in the event will fit within the following broad themes: • competition and stability in the banking sector: theory and empirical evidence; • the role of financial innovations in the recent financial crisis; • the impact of the crisis and its resolution on competition in the financial industry; and • how can we reconcile financial stability and efficiency in a new macroprudential world?
