Expert forum: strategic issues in banknote distribution and policy - Centre for Central Banking Studies
This forum provides an opportunity for senior practitioners to work with others in the field on strategic issues affecting the supply and demand for banknotes. The event will focus on two or three topical issues — that have a longer-term horizon — bringing together relevant experts from a range of central banks. It will be structured around a mixture of presentations from participants and workshops designed to share ideas and expertise to identify best practice or potential solutions to key issues. Potential themes include: • long-term demand for banknotes: – forecasting demand and capacity planning; – predicting turning points in the demand for cash; – estimating residual demand; – demographic trends; and – prospects for alternatives to cash. • quality of banknotes in circulation: – how to monitor banknote quality; – setting quality standards; – public perceptions; – impact of different banknote substrates; and – tackling low denominational banknote quality.
