Introduction to modelling for central bankers - Centre for Central Banking Studies
Models are essential in developing rigorous, coherent and robust frameworks for economic analysis, thinking and policymaking in central banks. This one-week seminar focuses on the basics of economic modelling with a combination of lectures on introductory modelling theory and practical exercises on the topic. This event aims at providing participants with a solid knowledge of economic modelling techniques for monetary policy purposes. Topics: - basic optimisation techniques; - model microfoundations; - basic models of the business cycle; - approximation techniques; - simple solution methods; - univariate (long-run) modelling: cointegration; - construction and estimation of small multivariate econometric models; and - model evaluation and policy analysis using estimated models.
