Joint FIG/UNECE WPLA Conference "Informal Development, Property, and Housing: Legalization and Progress"
Many countries of the world are changing their planning tools and building codes. Modern planning is moving away from ‘‘controlling development’’ and ‘‘environmental and cultural protection’’ towards ‘‘facilitation of economic growth’’ and ‘‘facing climate change’’. The use of new approaches and tools can create confusion and conflicting policies are still enforced due to the lack of awareness and understanding of politicians, citizen, and experts. FIG and the UNECE WPLA (Working Party on Land Administration), recognizing the need to - monitor progress and changes in laws, policies, and planning tools, - evaluate building codes and building codes reform, - raise awareness and provide a forum for experience and knowledge sharing, and - identify new and compatible tools to promote economic growth, address social needs and preserve the environment, have agreed to organize a joint FIG/UNECE WPLA Conference in December 2012.
