SUERF Conference "Tracking Financial Behaviour: Where do Macro and Micro Meet?"
The last decades have witnessed tremendous growth, integration and innovation in financial sectors of advanced economies. These developments have very much increased the importance of accurate and comprehensive information about financial activity. This applies both to the financial industry and to policy makers from central banks and supervisory authorities. Two basic avenues to address this enhanced need for financial information are on the aggregate side the further development of financial accounts and on the micro side the establishment and international harmonization of surveys about household finances. This conference will review the latest developments in tracking financial activities, assess their relevance for market participants and policy makers, discuss the opportunities they create for academic research and look ahead in which direction future efforts should go.
