Trans-Atlantic Public Economics Seminar - Fiscal Policy
The conference will focus on papers that provide both theoretical and empirical evidence on the of fiscal policy on economic performance, both in the short run and the longer run. To what degree can a fiscal stimulus be used to ease an economic downturn? What are the risks and longer-run costs of the resulting increase in debt/GDP ratios, both for any given country and for neighboring countries? What longer-term fiscal pressures do countries face in coming years due both to the retirement of the baby-boom generation, and to dropping fertility rates? How should they best address these pressures?
