Workshop" The Politics of Education Policy: An International Perspective"
Education policies and outcomes are unavoidably shaped by the political process and therefore by such factors as public opinion and the activities of interest groups. To better understand the political economy of education, we aim to bring together researchers from across countries to provide an international perspective on policy making in this important domain. To what extent are political actors responsive to the opinions of voters and of interest groups in different countries? Does public opinion depend on the extent to which the public is informed about important underlying facts? What other political forces are at work? What are the impacts on policy? We invite submissions on public opinion, the politics of education policy, the economics of education, and related areas that shed light on the workshop topic. We are particularly interested in papers that either explore the role of information in the formation of public opinion and/or identify connections between politics and policy.
