Analyzing the Obstacles of Green Manufacturing in Indian Smes Using Best-Worst Method

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) use energy and natural resources highly haphazardly, causing environmental pollution. Green manufacturing can mitigate the problem of environmental pollution. However, the Indian SMEs are reluctant to adopt green manufacturing and thus lag far behind the target. In this paper, an attempt has been made to determine the reasons for hesitation in implementing green manufacturing practices in Indian SMEs. The literature survey identified twenty-five obstacles to green manufacturing practices (GMP). The factor analysis (FA) method has been used to group these obstacles into six major groups. The best-worst method (BWM) technique has been used to rank these obstacles according to their impact on GMP. Financial assistance like a loan at less interest, lower tax rates, etc., should be provided to the SMEs. A campaign should be made for proper awareness about the latest technology support for green manufacturing. Regulations should be practical and user friendly
