English Language Learning Patterns Among The First And Second Year Graduates At Madurai Kamaraj University College - Aundipatti : A Case Study
This dissertation/thesis/project work excavates the learning patterns of the rural students to learn English as a Second Language in a rural district of Tamil Nadu, India. The analysis studies various patterns used by the students and suggests various methods which the teacher could use in order to discourage bad learning patterns and motivate students in the right path towards the development of the four skills LSRW. The unjustifiable and irresistible tendency of the teachers of English to shift the blame on to the students for their pitiable performance in examinations and their inability to use English in both spoken and written forms in daily life on the one hand, and anger and frustration of the students, over their helplessness to transfer linguistic competence acquired in the class to communicative competence in the real life situations, in spite of being sufficiently motivated with favorable attitude towards English, on the other hand, prompted the investigator to study the problem. After a serious of consultation with the students, the members of the Faculty of the College and a critical reading of the existing relevant literature in Second Language Acquisition, the researcher formed the hypothesis that the curriculum, namely which is not need-based and the poor learning skills of the learner due to the environmental disadvantages, causes the problem
