Exploration of Workplace Conditions on Employee Satisfaction and Commitment in the South West Region of Cameroon

This paper argues that in today's booming economy, workers are becoming more important to their employers than their employers are to them. Thus, developing and maintaining a relationship with employees has become an imperative thing to do for businesses to be competitive in today’s dynamic environment. Intrapreneurship is seen as a way for assisting organisations to enhance their employee’s satisfaction and commitment. Intrapreneurship refers to employee initiatives in organizations to undertake something new, without being asked to do so. Hence, the employee intrapreneur to achieve the above must be committed and satisfied. The research measures employees’ job satisfaction (as measured by the Job Satisfaction Survey) and organisational commitment (as measured on the Organisational Commitment Scale). A cross-sectional study was conducted on a convenience and purposive sample of 120 lower level and middle managers employees in organizations in the South West Region of Cameroon. Correlational and stepwise regression analyses revealed a number of significant relationships between the two variables. Furthermore, the smart PLS software for Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique was used to statistically analyse the measurement and structural models. The results indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between all the hypotheses.
