Improvements in control methods for warble-fly in cattle and goats : workshop held in Cordoba 8 to 10 May 1991

The warble-fly induces a parasitic disease which causes major financial losses to livestock breeding. An informal European Working Party was set up in 1979 to harmonize research into warble-fly control. Over a series of meetings, this ad hoc Working Party compiled an economic statement on the incidence of the disease and drew up a map showing its prevalence in Europe. The various national warble-fly control programmes were then compared, which made it possible to identify the reasons for their successes and failures. Since March 1991, this research programme has been carried out in the framework of COST (European Co-operation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research) as COST Project 811. Seven countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom cooperated very closely in this important area. Other countries have expressed interest to join the project. The technical session of the Cordoba meeting, consisted of invited speakers, reviewing recent progress in the development of the control of the warble-fly. The first part on 'Epidemiology, Biology and Control of Hypodermosis' contains fourteen presentations. The second part devoted to 'other topics' contains five presentations. The present volume of Proceedings comprises all of the review paper.
