IT R&D programme : Volume III: Software and advanced information processing : summaries of Esprit projects Esprit II & III

This book gives an overview of the work carried out in the SAIP area of the Esprit programme. Each project and action is described in a standard format covering its aims, approach and methods, progress and results and potential impact. In each case details of participating organizations are provided together with a contact point. The main object of Esprit's software and advanced information processing sector is to provide the industrial technology required for the development of the IT products likely to emerge on to the market in the 1990s. To support this objective, the programme of work is aimed at the management and control of system complexity, reducing development and operational costs, and improving the quality, reliability and performance of systems. Against this background, the drive towards systems engineering and a true systems approach to IT product development is gaining momentum. This updated edition incorporates progress and results reported since late 1992 and contains the first descriptions of the many new projects launched following the Esprit III call for proposals in 1993.
