Even after 10 years, countries under transition are still an theirway to becoming developed, internationally competitivecountries. At this stage it is helpful for business cooperation toknow whether managers in countries undergoing transition arebehaving like socialists or Western managers, or somewhere inbetween. Many joint ventures and other alliances betweenWestern companies and companies in countries in transition areseeking to establish new markets with new products or newtechnologies (i.e., new processes) . They are risky because thereturns are uncertain . Understanding the risk attitudes ofmanagers in countries in transition can explain differentinvestment behavior and provide vital information for installingthe right incentives.
