The policy/procedure manual, part IV: writing the manual

Purpose – This article's purpose is to offer a process for getting the policy/procedure manual written for libraries who seem to have little staff time to spare. Design/methodology/approach – The article relates the process to the scheme developed in the previous article and then outlines the process step‐by‐step. Findings – The finding is that with a judicious amount of time invested, any library can have a clear, well‐written policy/procedure manual which will promote highly desirable library goals. Practical implications – The process given here includes a built‐in mechanism for continuous improvement. Social implications – The process should result in better relations with constituents, higher staff productivity, and better staff morale. Originality/value – The value of the article is in encouraging library directors so that they can and should use staff to help create a working policy/procedure manual with a minimal time investment.
