Views on the implementation of the Euro 5 environmental step for L-category vehicles : results of a questionnaire survey

European Union (EU) Regulation 168/2013 on the approval and market surveillance of two- or three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles outlines harmonised rules for the type approval of L-category vehicles1 in order to improve urban air quality. The Regulation also requires an environmental effects study to assess the implementation of the 'Euro 5 environmental step'. On behalf of DG GROW, the EC Joint Research Centre (JRC) undertook an on-line questionnaire survey of public opinions on the application of the Euro 5 environmental step to L-category vehicles to inform the environmental effects study. The survey was conducted in March - July 2015. A total of 101 (out of 1213) respondents participated in the online questionnaire survey. However, not all respondents completed all questions. The final analysis is therefore based on a total of 63 respondents, which is equal to a 5.2% response rate. The results provide a cross-section of views. This report presents the results of the questionnaire survey. It highlights a number of issues that should be considered in the environmental effects study in order to provide a better understanding of the impact of applying the Euro 5 step to L-category vehicles.
